what does this plant have to do with jupiter, antonio?
have a sunny day!
Its scientific name «Lagerstroemia» comes from M. von Lagerstroem, a Swedish botanist, whom Linneo dedicated this plant. «Indica» refers to its place of origin (Far East). It has several vulgar names, but the most current one is «Tree of Jupiter «. It is named in this way for the resemblance of its flowers with the beard (or, rather, with the representations of the beard) of the father and chief of the gods. In fact, this plant is known also by “espumillas” (foam) and “crespón” (crape). These names, in Spanish, are related to the same image.
Best regards on this sunny and rainy day.
¡Qué fino el tallo,
qué verde la rama,
qué esponjadas las flores!
¿Son rosa las barbas?
Un verso a partir de tu explicación 🙂
Al parecer, Júpiter tenía unas barbas así de floridas.
